Rivian

The Rivian companion app is an app exclusively for Rivian owners; helping them monitor charging, control vehicle settings, and book service appointments. But with the R2 and R3 models expected to arrive in 2026, the app misses the opportunity to engage younger, mobile-first professionals - letting them discover the Rivian brand, mission, and lineup directly through the app.

So what if you could order a Rivian from the mobile app?

Iconography

I explored iconography by swapping out the generic “home” icon for a signature Rivian element: the stadium headlights. This “guiding light” motif not only ties directly back to Rivian’s brand identity but also provides an intuitive, memorable cue for navigating to the home screen.

User Research

I conducted interviews with young adults between the ages of 20 and 39 to understand how they felt about not being able to explore or order a Rivian vehicle directly through the app. The conversations made it clear that this group expected a more seamless, end-to-end experience—one that began with brand discovery and could lead all the way to purchase, all from their phone. Across the board, most participants—regardless of age—shared either personal frustrations or secondhand stories of negative dealership experiences in the U.S., reinforcing the desire for a more direct, app-first alternative.
